Have you ever heard that li’l pearl of wisdom about country music, three chords and the truth? Oh, you know what we’re talking about! It’s the phrase that gets printed on T-shirts, quoted onstage and — because this is Nashville, after all — provides inspiration for the name of a new concert hall in Wedgewood-Houston? Well, decades ago, a beloved singer-songwriter named Harlan Howard described Nashville’s famed cultural export as nothin’ but “three chords and the truth” — and it stuck. And if you remove the grifters and ignore the naysayers, Howard’s words today remain, well, true. Those who head to 3rd and Lindsley on Sept. 7 can expect a whole lot of truth at a night celebrating what would’ve been Howard’s 99th birthday. Hosted by Jim Lauderdale, the event will feature a formidable crew of singers and songwriters who will come together for a one-night celebration of the man who helped create country classics like “I Fall to Pieces,” “I’ve Got a Tiger by the Tail” and many others. Slated performers include Mandy Barnett, Lee Ann Womack, Waylon Payne and Radney Foster, among others.
