Nashville-based photographer Ian Edward White will join the ranks of legends William Eggleston and William Christenberry when his solo show, Townes Ferry Pike, opens this weekend at David Lusk Gallery. The gallery has hosted exhibitions of Eggleston and Christenberry on several occasions, but even without that pedigree, a solo show in a commercial gallery is a big deal for a photographer. White is a photo teacher at MTSU, and this body of work was made over the past four years during trips through Murfreesboro, Shelbyville, McMinnville and Columbia. “Rather than documenting the region through its familiar landmarks,” reads the exhibition statement, “he turns his attention to the quieter moments of its inhabitants and geography: chance encounters, overlooked spaces, changing weather, and the subtle exchanges that reveal the complexities of everyday life.” White will discuss his work with Frist Art Museum executive director Seth Feman at 6 p.m. on Sept. 24, and the gallery will host a closing reception to coincide with the October art crawl on Oct. 3.
