Gordon Kennedy_3734

The son of legendary guitarist, producer and label chief Jerry Kennedy, Gordon Kennedy has made quite a name for himself as a second-generation Nashville musician and songwriter. He is probably best-known as the co-writer of “Change the World,” which was a worldwide hit for Eric Clapton and earned Kennedy and his co-writers a Grammy for Song of the Year in 1996. He’s also written songs for Bonnie Raitt, Don Henley and Stevie Nicks, Garth Brooks, Peter Frampton and Bruce Hornsby, among many others. In addition, Kennedy has distinguished himself as a guitarist and producer. He’s played on records by an array of artists across multiple genres, including Frampton, Henley, Brooks, Jewel, Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald. He won a Grammy as a producer in the Best Pop Instrumental Album category for Frampton’s 2006 album Fingerprints. Kennedy will bring his songs and the entertaining stories behind them to the stage at Fox & Locke in Franklin on Friday night. He’ll play acoustic guitar and will be accompanied at times by Blair Masters on keys and his son Dylan Kennedy on mandolin. “I’ll do Clapton and Bonnie Raitt, and songs from movies that I’ve written for,” Kennedy tells the Scene. “Ninety-five percent of what I’m going to do is [from] my catalog.”

8 p.m. at Fox & Locke

4142 Old Hillsboro Road, Franklin
