WXNA 10th Birthday Bash

It’s hard to imagine Nashville without community radio station WXNA. What city with an incredibly diverse population of musicians and music fans doesn’t need dozens of volunteers lovingly curating their favorite sounds for you every week? But it has been just 10 years since the station officially signed on following an intense period of hard work and fundraising. WXNA is a nice thing we get to keep, even in this rough time, because of the enthusiasm of volunteers and the generosity of underwriters and station members (or others who make one-off donations). Saturday’s anniversary throwdown reflects the station’s purpose to share ideas and welcome neighbors. Topping the bill is Pylon Reenactment Society, the contemporary version of pioneering Athens, Ga., post-punk ensemble Pylon — a beacon of the weird Southern underground for the past half-century — featuring original vocalist Vanessa Briscoe Hay. Local Ramones tribute Marco Blitz and the Brats (including members of The Serpenteens, Maanta Raay and Wesley & The Boys) will play the slab of punk bedrock that is 1976’s Ramones in full, and members of the Kurdish Culture and Music Association will share traditional music from this rich immigrant community that calls Nashville home. You’ve also got drag star Vivica Steele, comedian Cortney Warner and DJ Housequake on deck, alongside a flash tattoo booth, a silent auction and Out of Print, a pop-up gallery from photographer Theresa Kereakes and artist Nathan Webber featuring punk photos and memorabilia.

6 p.m. at Eastside Bowl

1508 Gallatin Pike S., Madison
