Is your bedroom’s aroma a mix of yellowed sci-fi paperbacks and bong resin? Does the reading pile on your nightstand include Ursula K. Le Guin, Zap Comix and Arthur Rimbaud? Do you prefer a car equipped with a supercharger and a T-top? If so, then I urge you to get a hold of Maanta Raay’s self-titled debut LP.
This acid-rock tour de force folds spacetime, sending sonic voyagers through the Vietnam-era escapism of BÖC and Captain Beyond, into the post-Desert Storm chaos of Mudhoney and Monster Magnet. Fronted by Immortal Lee County Killers and Quadrajets guitar-slinger Chet Weise, MR’s thunderous boogie is held down by bassist Mason Hadley and drummer Carlos Ortiz-Martínez, who released this rock odyssey on his own No Sabes imprint.
The record is at your favorite store and on Bandcamp as well as other streaming services. The band is just back from Europe and the U.K. and doesn't have any local dates, but keep an eye on their Instagram for more.
