Since COVID lockdown, we’ve run a recurring print column called Another Look that rounds up several super-brief record reviews. It’s a way to highlight worthy releases from Nashville-residing musicians during the past few months that we haven’t yet covered in-depth. The time has come for an evolution: Rather than one whopping article, we’re revamping Another Look as a series of single short reviews, with one or more iterations online each week.

Over is the first longform release from metal outfit My Wall since they expanded from a maniacal power trio to a malicious quartet. Finished following last year’s tour of Japan, the record was released digitally via drummer Charly Ortiz’s No Sabes label in November. However, as is common with contemporary vinyl pressing backlogs, the physical LP was delayed until more recently.

It’s worth the wait. The album is 38 minutes of the most putridly heavy riffs to ever come out of Nashville. The dismal tone centers around the erosion of downtuned guitar riffs and leviathan beats. Recorded by local sound board wiz Shibby Poole and mastered by grind/doom/drone maestro James Plotkin of O.L.D. and Khanate fame, its every note is perfectly executed for maximum volume.

Snag a copy by clicking through the Bandcamp embed, find the record on your favorite streaming service and follow My Wall on Instagram for updates.
