The Grind Hard pendant hanging from the chain around Starlito’s neck is more than just a piece of jewelry, or even an advertisement for his record label. Sandwiched between his July 2024 release Imposter Syndrome and the upcoming release on Friday of Step Brothers 4 Life — his latest collab with longtime musical partner Don Trip — Regretfully raises the count to three full albums from the longtime Music City rap hero in less than a year.
The album features Lito’s signature slick, jazzy beats and clever turns of phrase. There are references to the staying power of ’90s Black sitcoms, mourning for the struggle to overcome chemical dependencies — and calling out reigning NBA Finals MVP Jaylen Brown’s inability to dribble with his left hand. The aforementioned Mr. Trip has a feature, as do Alani, Robin Raynelle and East Nashville’s own Brian Brown.
Keep up with Starlito on Instagram, and catch him and Trip celebrating their new record May 31 at Eastside Bowl.
