From his effervescent 2025 album Who Is the Sky? to his investment in solutions journalism through the nonprofit mag Reasons to Be Cheerful, David Byrne has seemed committed lately to cultivating infectious joy.
As always, though, his songs have layers hidden in the grooves — on Who Is the Sky?, “Moisturizing Thing” is part baby Metamorphosis, part rumination on belonging, and “My Apartment Is My Friend” starts off as a heartfelt ode to being seen at your worst before turning into another song about a building. “What Is the Reason for It?” meanwhile features Nashville’s own Hayley Williams, deepening a creative relationship between the two that kicked off when Paramore released a cover of “Burning Down the House” in 2024. On Saturday, fresh off the release of a bonus single with Natalia Lafourcade and the Mexican Institute of Sound, Byrne will bring his current tour’s blue-suited choreography to Ascend Amphitheater. Rumor has it recent set lists have combined Talking Heads favorites with his solo work of late — either way, the show is sure to be a delight.
8 p.m. at Ascend Amphitheater
