Fresh off an appearance at Bonnaroo in his day job as keyboardist for Tedeschi Trucks Band, soulful piano rocker Gabe Dixon returns to 3rd and Lindsley Saturday for a performance of his own material, including his brand-new single “World’s Gone By.” Released on June 12, “World’s Gone By” is a lush, bouncy pop-rocker that addresses the irony of “looking for the world inside a screen when the real world is all around us.” In places, the single echoes the work of Paul McCartney, whom Dixon has worked with. “We’ll do all three songs I’ve released this year,” Dixon tells the Scene. “Back in January, I released ‘Manically Free,’ and then in February, I released one called ‘Violins.’” All three tracks were co-written and co-produced by Dustin Ransom, Dixon’s musical collaborator for the past decade. At Saturday’s show, Dixon will be accompanied by Ransom on drums and percussion, Dan Asher on bass and special guest Jess Nolan on keys and backing vocals. In addition to the recent singles, he says they will perform fan favorites from across his career, such as “All Will Be Well,” “Find My Way” and “Till You’re Gone” from his days with The Gabe Dixon Band.
