After reuniting in 2022 and releasing the album Mommy in 2023, acclaimed garage-punk quartet Be Your Own Pet has averaged a show per year in their hometown. This year’s Nashville show will be Saturday night at The Blue Room, and the band has something special planned. “We’re doing something we’ve never done before — we’re going to play the whole first album in its entirety,” lead vocalist Jemina Pearl tells the Scene. After performing that eponymous album from 2006, BYOP — Pearl, guitarist Jonas Stein, bassist Nathan Vasquez and drummer John Eatherly — will return for a second set. “We’ll dive into kind of the greatest hits of everything people like — stuff off of Get Awkward, some songs off of Mommy, and maybe a new cover or two,” Pearl says. “We have a song that’s not been released that we’ve been playing on the road, and it’s turned into something fans like. It’s called ‘On YR Knees,’ so we might play that.” That’s not the only unreleased song the band has in the can. “We are slowly working on new stuff, but no specific plans for a full album,” the vocalist says. “People won’t have to wait another 15 years, but they might have to wait a little bit longer.”
