Rock singer-songwriter-guitarist Aaron Lee Tasjan will celebrate the release of his excellent new album Get Over It, Underdog with a show on Oct. 21 at The Basement East. Get Over It, Underdog was released on July 17, but Tasjan decided to wait a few months before playing a hometown release show. “When you do a record release show when the record comes out, it can feel a little anticlimactic because the audiences don’t really know the record yet,” he tells the Scene. “So my thinking was if we put it out in the summer and then wait until sometime in the fall to do a release show, we can play the material from the record and people will be excited to hear it.” The show will begin with Tasjan playing a couple of songs on acoustic guitar or piano, then he’ll be joined by a three-piece string section, which will accompany him on a pair of the orchestrated numbers from the new album. Next, his band — Jeff Ratner (bass) and Matty Alger (drums) — will come onstage for a few more songs with the string section before the strings leave and the evening concludes with a full-on rock set that will feature a few special guest musicians and vocalists who appeared on Get Over It, Underdog.
8 p.m. at The Basement East
917 Woodland St.
