Modern audiences may be more familiar with Zack Snyder’s 2004 action-oriented Dawn of the Dead remake, and while the 1978 original lacks the kinetic pace and Ving Rhames, it has more charm and (appropriately) more teeth underneath the gray makeup and neon-red blood. There’s dread, hubris, a brilliant helicopter rotor scene and, yeah, a pretty obvious metaphor about consumerism tying it all together. But for all the suspense and thoughtfulness, it’s also rife with schlocky gore. It’s a great one to watch with a crowd, so why not enjoy the thrills with Honeytree’s great selection of mead?
