Best College Sports Success Story

Not since the Fly was open (Let’s Go Peay!) has Clarksville had such a fun bunch of Govs. After winning just once between 2013 and 2016, the team best known as the place where Watson Brown got the first of his record number of losses as a college football coach shocked the world of FCS watchers in 2017 under second-year coach Will Healy (at 32, college football’s second-youngest coach). Opening the season with a surprisingly game 26-14 loss in a paycheck match at Cincinnati, the Governors ended the season 8-4, with three losses to FBS opponents and the fourth to perennial powerhouse and eventual Ohio Valley Conference champion Jacksonville State. Rebuffed by the playoff-selection committee at the end of the year, the Govs look to maintain their heretofore unprecedented heights in 2018 and are picked second in the conference this year. J.R.
