Best Adaptive Reuse Project

Since about 2012, multiple Charlotte Avenue buildings have seen tasteful upgrades, but perhaps the most important has been that of The Clementine. Located within the 4700 block of the bustling street, the event space is housed in the adaptively reused building once home to West Nashville United Methodist Church. Local developer Dan Cook undertook the project — and nailed it, much like he did with a similar event space, Ruby on Blakemore Avenue near Hillsboro Village. That building also once housed a church, so Cook clearly can recognize a former congregation space ideally suited for reinvention. Saving handsome religious structures is important. Cook has mastered the art form. WILLIAM WILLIAMS
