Strip-mall nail salons are good and well when you need a quick mani-pedi without breaking the bank, but some days require real pampering. Enter Poppy & Monroe, the best thing to come to Germantown since Tandy Wilson’s belly-ham pizza (topped with an egg because duh). Owners Sherri Coates and Karen Kops transformed an 1870s row house into an ultrachic haven for relaxation in the heart of this hip North Nashville neighborhood. Sip a mimosa (or anything you fancy from the bar) while your unruly cuticles are coiffed into submission by an expert team using nontoxic and environmentally conscious products. Poppy & Monroe also offers facials, brow and lash treatments and hair removal, so have a second glass of wine and make a day out of it. And be sure to save me a seat. NANCY FLOYD
