Screaming Cheetah Wheelies

The Screamin’ Cheetah Wheelies haven’t released an album of new music since 2005, but their popularity has not waned, as evidenced by their four shows this week at 3rd and Lindsley beginning Thursday night. The first two shows sold out so quickly that the band added two more. The Southern hard-rock quintet is celebrating the 30th anniversary of Magnolia, their debut album for Capricorn Records released in April 1996. “It had been four years since we had done our last shows, and I just thought it’d be a good time to get together and celebrate 30 years of Magnolia, an album that means a lot to our fans,” lead vocalist and principal songwriter Mike Farris tells the Scene. In addition to the Nashville shows, The Screamin’ Cheetah Wheelies’ 30 Years of Magnolia celebration will include a pair of performances at the Gramercy Theatre in New York at the end of the month and a multi-city run of dates in Spain in October. Unfortunately, bassist Steve Burgess will not be joining Farris and his other bandmates — guitarists Rick White and Bobby Watkins and drummer Terry Thomas — at their upcoming shows. Burgess is battling early-onset Parkinson’s disease, so Dean Tomasek, who is best known for his bass work with Bare Jr. and Valentine Saloon, is filling in.
