British rocker Robyn Hitchcock will perform in his adopted hometown Thursday evening at The Basement East as part of his tour to celebrate the upcoming release of his 25th studio album, The Confuser. The show, which is billed as “Live and Electric,” will feature Hitchcock’s new backing band — guitarist Jeremy Fetzer, bassist Todd Bolden and drummer Eric Slick. “It’s great to play a hometown gig in Nashville,” Hitchcock tells the Scene. “I’m proud to be considered part of the musical community here, an honorary Nashville Cat. It makes me feel like I’ve done something with my life, something unusual.” Hitchcock will be releasing The Confuser on July 24, and it essentially will be the follow-up to his brilliant 2022 full-length Shufflemania, although not literally — he released an album of instrumentals in 2023 (Life After Infinity) and an album of covers in 2024 (1967: Vacations in the Past). The latter was a companion to his memoir published the same year, 1967: How I Got There and Why I Never Left. Hitchcock says his set at the Beast will include “two or three” songs from the new album, including the first single “I Am This Thing,” which was released on March 27.
