SiSSi Cycle 8: Round 1

It’s fun to follow drag queens on one of the largest national stages, RuPaul’s Drag Race — but it’s perhaps more important and rewarding to support queens in your own backyard. Hosted by local talent Cya Inhale and Vidalia Anne Gentry and presented by Music City PrEP Clinic, SiSSi | A Queer Competition gives us a chance to do just that. In the eighth cycle of the three-night, elimination-style live competition, 12 local drag queens will battle to become this season’s winner. The audience even gets a say in who moves on to the second round. The dozen competitors represent a diverse mix of drag styles, and SiSSi serves as a great intro to the art form for those less familiar, too. Like any competition show, it’s also a chance to catch some talented artists before they become nationally known. Despite the Tennessee General Assembly’s seeming obsession with tamping it down, drag is alive and well in Nashville. More than alive, it’s chock-full of talent and joy.
