For every great marquee musician in Nashville, there are a dozen more whose tremendous talents play a big role in the headliners getting to shine in the spotlight. You might not know Dave Pomeroy’s name if you aren’t involved in the Music City music biz, but he’s been an integral part of it for decades. A couple of his roles are as the long-serving president of the Nashville Musicians Association (aka American Federation of Musicians Local 257, our city’s musicians’ union) and the organizer of the annual star-studded Nashville Unlimited Christmas Concert, a benefit for homelessness advocacy group Room In The Inn that’s been going for more than a quarter-century. There’s also a good chance Pomeroy has played bass on a record you love or in a touring band with one of your favorites, and quite a few legends of our area and beyond are coming to 3rd and Lindsley on Sunday to celebrate his birthday. Just a few of the many names on the bill: soul-stirring frontman Charles “Wigg” Walker, vocal heroines The McCrary Sisters, sideman-frontman-producer extraordinaire Buddy Miller and queen songsmith Emmylou Harris. If someone is to be judged by the friends they make, Pomeroy has earned high esteem, indeed.
