If you wanna know who the person was who yelled the N-word at Michael B. Jordan and Delroy Lindo at this year’s British Academy Film Awards, a film based on his life will be hitting movie screens this weekend. I Swear takes you to Scotland to meet John Davidson (Game of Thrones alum Robert Aramayo in a BAFTA-winning performance), whose lifelong struggle with Tourette’s made him an advocate for Scots with uncontrollable tics. Writer-director Kirk Jones (Nanny McPhee) sends you on a grueling but sympathetic tour through Davidson’s early years, when it seems like he was the only person in the country to have the nervous system disorder. When he’s not yelling slurs or giving quick punches to people (and animals), he gets into scuffles that land him in either jail or the hospital. A friend’s mom (Maxine Peake), a mental health nurse, thankfully provides love and support when John’s mom (Shirley Henderson) and family give up hope. I Swear gives you a better understanding of Davidson and his journey! Visit iswearmovie.com for showtimes.
