Christmas Vacation

National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation — the third film in the Vacation series, featuring the third pair of actors to play the Griswold children — is the type of movie so many families consider their own personal tradition around the holidays. It reminds us that families are often complicated, funny and exasperating, and while sometimes we wouldn’t choose them if it were up to us, they’re worth having around. Also, the hard work of a light display can really pay off. At a cool hour and 37 minutes, the 1989 Chevy Chase comedy is my preferred way to get in the mood for the season. Seeing this Christmas classic can only be improved by watching it with other families — further reinforcing the point that the stress and joy of the holidays is universal.
