Best Civic Bootcamp in Nashville 2026: SUN’s Boards and Commissions Leadership Institute
Organizing outfit Stand Up Nashville continues to prove what “people power” can do in local government. The advocacy group accurately diagnosed that many key city decisions happen by unpaid volunteers in drab conference rooms, launching a Boards and Commissions Leadership Institute that has skilled up public officials across city government — including two on the Metro Council. In turn, SUN has graduated a network of allies well-positioned to advance its economic and racial justice advocacy work. Institute organizer Quiteka Moten’s color-coded spreadsheet helps SUN track when new vacancies will arise. It is simple, savvy politics steering the city.
