Best Gift Shop for Weirdies

We already love Elephant Gallery for keeping Nashville’s art scene weird. But now, thanks to Anteater, it’s easy to bring some Elephant-approved mementos into your home. The gift shop, located inside the Elephant Gallery and also online at shopanteater.com, is packed with strange and silly treasures. They have Brett Douglas Hunter’s Turds — crude, brightly colored, poo-shaped sculptures decorated with smiling faces — for $20. There’s Alex Lockwood’s chunky statement necklaces made of marker caps, Jessica Cheatham’s Salt Ceramics cups and trays, and Don Shull’s eerie papier-mâché animal masks. And remember those T-shirts that popped up at Porter Flea this summer, boasting Megan Barry’s mugshot and the words “Free Megan”? They were designed by Jama Omar-Ali Mohamed, and Anteater sold those, too. MEGAN SELING
