In 2013, Brooke Asbury, 32 and living in Seattle, packed up her Volvo and relocated to Tennessee to open Hot Yoga East Nashville after falling in love with this city over a few late nights of honky-tonking. Instead of quitting her career as a geologist, she worked full-time remotely while running her busy yoga studio, taught 104-degree classes, and played fiddle in a few Grand Ole Opry-style rockin’ big-hair classic country groups. Eighteen months after coming to town, she opened Scout’s, a cool unisex barbershop with a Cheers-like vibe (customers’ haircuts include a Fat Bottom beer or Barista Parlor coffee), and got her third tattoo: “Just as I am.”
