The Music City Film Critics Association Nominations Are In

Last year, the Music City Film Critics Association formed to give Nashville a voice in the ever-growing hubbub of year-end and best-of lists and picks. (Full-disclosure: I am a member of the association.) Now in its second year, the MCFCA has released its annual ballot of nominations. Topping the list are films Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood with nine nominations, Parasite with eight nominations, 1917 with seven nominations and The Irishman with seven nominations.

Of the 52 films nominated across all categories, just 11 were directed by women. MCFCA critics have also voted on the top films of the decade, listing Moonlight, Tree of Life, Get Out and Mad Max: Fury Road among them. Notably, no films directed by women made the cut on this list.

The association is made up of 30 professional film critics — five of whom are women — who live and work in or around Nashville. Winners will be announced on Jan. 10, 2020. Check out the full list, with links to the Scene’s coverage, below.
