Nashville continues to make its case as a rugby town. After hosting the inaugural Music City Rugby Showdown in April, Geodis Park will now welcome Team USA’s rugby squads for a doubleheader on Saturday. The USA Rugby International Series will begin with a matchup between the U.S. women and Italy at 3:15 p.m., followed by an outing between the U.S. men and Australia at approximately 6 p.m. “Nashville as a city is lovely,” Team USA veteran Rachel Ehrecke tells the Scene. “I think women’s sports in general is having a lot of momentum, and rugby is right there with it. We saw after the previous Olympics, there was a huge surge in not only the fan base but people that wanted to play. I work with youth sports in Colorado, and the sign-ups exploded with people … who wanted to play this sport, and we had so many more fans coming out to games too, so I just see that continuing to grow as people fall in love with the sport.” Saturday’s doubleheader will be just the second-ever non-soccer sporting event at Geodis.
3:15 and 6 p.m. at Geodis Park
501 Benton Ave.
