The Theater Bug first introduced its youth writing program The Playground back in 2022, offering a perfect way to amplify young voices while honoring its commitment to new works. The year-round program provides a host of creative and educational opportunities, plus professional mentorship and an annual short-play festival. Each year, one young writer is selected to develop their idea into a fully staged production. You can catch The Playground’s latest installment, as the Bug presents Stuck in Your Head this weekend at the 4th Story Theater at West End United Methodist Church. Penned by James Walker, Stuck in Your Head follows a “self-conscious high schooler, steered by conflicting voices in her head — including a hyper-stressed Angel Clown and a depressed Demon Bear.” A senior at Renaissance High School in Franklin, Walker is an 18-year-old multimedia artist with a real passion for writing, music and storytelling, and Stuck in Your Head promises to be a thoughtful and wildly imaginative script. The always reliable Leslie Marberry directs a terrific young ensemble, who will be joined by established actor and Nashville favorite Jon Royal. Audiences can also look forward to set design by Diana DeGarmo and costumes by Melodie Madden Adams.
April 16-19 at the 4th Story Theater at West End United Methodist Church
