pARTisan, an art exhibition that brings together Tennessee visual artists who are examining urgent social and political conversations in their works, is back for its second year. Hosted by David Lusk Gallery, pARTisan raises funds for the artists and Tennessee Rise, a PAC working to elect progressive candidates. The exhibition features the work of 29 Tennessee artists (up from 26 last year, which was the inaugural event), including Alfredo Gonzalez, Ashley Doggett, Amanda Micheletto-Blouin and Briena Harmening. Last year the show generated more than $31,000 in sales. Sales take place through an online auction. Sarah Baer, one of the show’s curators, says there was an intentional effort to bring Memphis artists into the event this year. “Memphis has long been at the center of many of the state’s most consequential civic and political issues, including the recent redrawing of district lines that diluted Black voting power,” Baer says. “While this year’s exhibition is based in Nashville, intentionally including Memphis artists was an important first step as we hope to expand pARTisan to Memphis in the future.”
