lucero

My gateway to Lucero was actually frontman Ben Nichols’ solo record The Last Pale Light in the West, a concept album inspired by Cormac McCarthy’s epic 1985 historical novel Blood Meridian. This stunning seven-track record not only inspired 22-year-old me to try (and fail) multiple times to finish Blood Meridian, but it also led me to fall in love with the music of Lucero. And there’s perhaps no better records to fall in love with in your 20s than Lucero’s Tennessee and Nobody’s Darlings. The road warriors’ current trek across the U.S. is in celebration of the latter, which itself turned 20 last year. The alt-country rockers will play Nobody’s Darling in its entirety, followed by a set of tunes from the band’s nearly 30-year career. Here’s hoping for fan favorites like “Nights Like These” and “That Much Further West” and a few Cormac-inspired tunes. Show up early for alt-country singer-songwriter Otis Gibbs, who’ll open the show.

8 p.m. at The Basement East
