When Aaron Distler reached out to tell me that Alaska’s James Beard-nominated chef Beau Schooler was coming to Mr. Aaron’s Goods, I was intrigued for several reasons. First of all, he’s bringing his Corndog Hootenanny to town, and who doesn’t like to say, “Corndog Hootenanny”? Next, Distler told me that when Schooler hosts the event in Juneau, they include a funeral pyre for a giant papier-mâché corndog. And third, this event drew lines around the block at Fat + Flour, one of my favorite spots in Los Angeles. Schooler will be joined in the Nashville Corndog Hootenanny by Distler, The Catbird Seat’s Andy Doubrava, Andrew McLeod from Asheville, N.C.’s King Salumi and Dustin Gonsalves of the local Banwari pop-up. The menu is still under development, but may include an okonomiyaki corndog with Bull-Dog sauce and a corndog with ’nduja gravy, caramelized onion mayo and fried onions. It would not be a Nashville hootenanny without live music, so Casy and the TN Quick Cash will be playing 1990s country. Corndog service starts at 4 p.m. and runs until they’re all gone.
