When experimental dance-rock duo The Weird Sisters — Gabrielle Lewis and Izaac Short — headline the Tomato Art Fest afterparty at The Basement East Saturday night, it probably will be their final show in Nashville. That’s according to a lengthy announcement the duo posted on their Facebook page on July 24. “After careful consideration, we have decided to hit the pause button on our project The Weird Sisters — specifically, on the live frontier,” the duo writes. “All future collaborations between the two of us will most likely be in the studio.” They went on to announce what will “likely” be their final four shows, a list that includes area appearances at The Beast on Saturday and Hop Springs Beer Park in Murfreesboro on Aug. 21. As for the reason for their hiatus, they say the DIY project that began in 2017 has grown to the point where they can no longer sustain it by themselves. Even though they’ll be taking a break, The Weird Sisters intend to go out with a bang. “We don’t plan on pulling any punches or crying about the past for these last few performances. … Obviously we could fade out and do a show every year or so, but we’d rather put a pin in it.” On Friday, the group will be releasing a new single: “Top Dog” backed with “Call Me Dion.”
