The Scene recently put The Cowgays on our cover, so readers should be well-informed about the cross-section of queer folks and people who love country music. Another item in that Venn diagram overlap is Lavender Roots, a locally based queer line-dancing group. The group, which hosts weekly lessons at a local dance studio, is set to host its first queer line-dancing party outside of that space. Lavender Roots is coming off a killer Pride month run, which included a Muna-themed lesson and a performance as backup dancers for The Cowgays at a packed Queer Dance Party. Dancers can expect some line-dancing lessons, dance routines set to traditional country songs, dance routines set to gay songs and dance routines to gay country songs — plus some time to dance without a routine at play. Lavender Roots members teach line dancing skills, but also excel at making people feel included and accepted whether they can dance or not.
