Tomahawk

Saturday night, Brooklyn Bowl will play host to one of the best rock double bills of the year. Hard-rock supergroup Tomahawk — lead vocalist-keyboardist Mike Patton (Faith No More, Mr. Bungle), guitarist Duane Denison (The Jesus Lizard), bassist Trevor Dunn (Mr. Bungle) and drummer John Stanier (Helmet) — headlines a bill that includes alt-rock legends the Melvins. It will be Tomahawk’s first live performance since 2013 and kicks off a 21-date run dubbed the A Huge Waste of Your Time and Money Tour. Starting the tour in Nashville was not a coincidence. “Nashville has oddly kind of been a home base in a way,” Denison, who lives in Nashville, tells the Scene. “We started here. I met Mike Patton here. We had our first rehearsals here. We recorded our first album here. So it’s kind of been an unofficial home away from home.” While Tomahawk’s set will feature a lot of fan favorites from across a career spanning a quarter-century, they will lean into material from their stellar 2021 full-length Tonic Immobility, which was released during the COVID-19 pandemic. “Even though that album came out five years ago, we’ve never played any of it live — anywhere,” the guitarist says. “So it’s kind of exciting. It’s kind of like we’ve got a new album.”

8 p.m. at Brooklyn Bowl

925 Third Ave. N.
