Sisters Kenzie and Laila Crowe of the Bowling Green, Ky.-based rock duo Girl Tones are set to cover a lot of ground in Nashville and Middle Tennessee this summer. The riot-grrrl-tinged sister act made their second-ever Bonnaroo appearance this year, though their performance was cut off early due to lightning in the area. Fear not if you’re upset about the shortened set or you simply didn’t want to cough up the cash for a Bonnaroo ticket. The sisters are headed to The Basement on Saturday for yet another high-energy, commanding performance reminiscent of female-fronted indie-punk acts like Sleater-Kinney, Mannequin Pussy and Sincere Engineer — all while crafting their own unique, punchy sound full of gritty and distorted guitars. With the release of several singles this year, Girl Tones have made it clear they aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. They are inching toward the release of their debut album, the date of which has yet to be announced. Plus, if you can’t make it to this weekend’s set, the duo is also set to play East Nashville’s Tomato Art Fest in August.
