A living connection to the forefathers of bluegrass music is still pickin’ today. He’s shared stages with Bill Monroe and recorded songs with Doc Watson. He’s a member of the Grand Ole Opry and the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame. His music inspired Jerry Garcia, Steve Earle and Billy Strings. Hell, the guy’s got a music festival named after him. We’re talking about Del McCoury, of course, who will play the Ryman Auditorium Thursday alongside his faithful backing band, as well as The Travelin’ McCourys — a family project spearheaded by sons Ronnie McCoury and Rob McCoury. The 87-year-old two-time Grammy Award winner and his band continue to deliver shows that are energetic beyond age — part reunion and part revival — where songs new and old simply sound timeless. See for yourself when Del McCoury and company take the stage in Music City — at the Ryman, no less — this week for a one-night-only show.
7:30 p.m. at the Ryman
