Mississippi Musicians Hall of Famer Webb Wilder, the last of the full grown men, brings his special brand of roots rock to the Fox & Locke stage Friday night. A mainstay in the Nashville rock scene since the 1980s, Wilder spends most of his time these days hosting Afternoons With Webb Wilder on WMOT. “I do Monday through Thursday afternoons, 1 to 4, but on Fridays, it’s 2 to 4, and it’s an Americana album chart show,” he tells the Scene. At Friday’s show, fans can expect to hear a couple of numbers from Wilder’s most recent album, Hillbilly Speedball, released in May 2025, but he says he’ll perform material from all 12 of his albums. “I have a big catalog and a core audience, and they have their favorite songs,” he says. “So it’s hard to do many of the new ones when they want to hear the old ones. Like a lot of my records, Hillbilly Speedball didn’t get broad exposure, but when we do the songs from it live, they are well-received.” The current edition of the Webb Wilder Band is a trio that, in addition to vocalist-guitarist Wilder, includes bassist Ralph Friedrichsen and drummer Marshall Richardson.
