I’ve been following the work of Nashville theater artist Scott Patrick Wilson since he was a student at Lipscomb University. Always a standout, he cut his teeth with the likes of Street Theatre, Nashville Rep and Actors Bridge, and even co-founded a student-led company called Second Stage Student Theatre. Wilson just recently moved back to Nashville, having spent several years working in New York City. And you can check out his latest project this weekend with the premiere of Oedipus: Simulation. Described as an audiovisual theater performance, the piece uses Sophocles’ Oedipus plays as “a codebase for interfacing with the past and present, human and technology, reality and simulation.” Wilson teamed up with longtime writing partner John Theo and Actors Bridge artistic director Vali Forrister to create this intriguing new work. And it just so happens to be the first official production under the banner of Wilson’s new experimental theater project Deepfake.
