Nashville Rep is wrapping up its season with a bold new play — and the launch of an exciting new initiative called Ingram New Works: Next Stage. Designed to move standout plays from the Ingram New Works Project further along in their development, Next Stage builds on the success of a staged reading with “an enhanced production.” Audiences can expect minimal design elements, but rest assured, this is a fully realized staging and performance featuring a slew of top talent. The new program kicks off this weekend with Amy Tofte’s highly anticipated BloodSuckingLeech. First presented as a staged reading in 2024, this dark comedy follows “a woman desperately trying to shield her aging mother from online scammers, only to find herself caught in a web of paranoia, guilt and unexpected hilarity.” Beki Baker is back to direct a stellar cast, including Rona Carter, Shannon Hoppe, Meggan Utech and Megan Murphy Chambers. Plus, there will be a post-show talkback with the playwright following each performance.
