All you boy moms and mama’s boys can celebrate the ultimate mother-son movie for Mother’s Day weekend at the Belcourt. In a bit of wicked programming, the team at our local arthouse has lined up Alfred Hitchcock’s paradigm-shifting classic, Psycho. For those who (somehow!) haven’t seen it, I won’t spoil the fun, but just know that all your favorite slashers owe this one a huge debt. Find out what makes the Bates Motel (which you can still check out a reconstructed version of on the Universal Studios lot in Los Angeles) such an iconic film location, how Anthony Perkins’ Norman Bates feels about taxidermy, which ’90s classics make overt references to Janet Leigh’s Marion Crane and how the iconic shower scene plays out in context. Without the Belcourt’s rep screenings, we’d all go a little mad sometimes. For showtimes, visit belcourt.org.
May 9-10 at the Belcourt
