Lesley Patterson-Marx: 'The Ephemeral Tarot'

From June 13 to 23, you can drop by the Arcade and see a project that’s been 30 years in the making. That’s how long artist Lesley Patterson-Marx has been collecting vintage ephemera, which she’s collaged into 78 spectacular tarot cards based on the classic Rider-Waite deck. This might just be Patterson-Marx’s masterpiece. It’s a great encapsulation of her style — lovely, intimate, at once familiar and unexpected, as if Hannah Höch had Southern roots. One of my favorite card designs is the Wheel of Fortune, which includes a weather vane, a circle of people joining hands, and a grid of the four elements. She’ll be exhibiting the 1.5-inch-by-2-inch original miniature collages at the Arcade, but there will also be a limited-edition version of the deck itself available for purchase. Patterson-Marx will even be giving mini tarot readings during the Downtown Art Crawl from 6 until 9 p.m. on Saturday.

Opening 6-9 p.m.; exhibit runs June 13-23 at the Arcade

223 Fourth Ave. N.
