The Fire Cycle: Stone Sutra

You probably know Clay Steakley as a Nashville-born writer, musician and actor. But last year, this prolific creator was named an artist-in-residence with the PBS-affiliated arts platform ALL ARTS, enabling him to produce a new film — The Fire Cycle: Stone Sutra. As with previous Fire Cycle offerings, Stone Sutra takes us on a mysterious journey, blending poetry, music and dance with striking visuals. Co-directed by Steakley and frequent collaborator and choreographer Becca Hoback (with cinematography by Tyler Dunning Evans), the film stars Steakley and Hoback, along with Denise Eason, Spencer Grady, Frannie Melancon, Asia Pyron, Amanda Reichert, Phylicia Roybal and Alex Winer. And you can experience it all next week, with a premiere celebration at The Forge. It’s sure to be an engaging evening, with a screening of the new film, a retrospective and panel discussion led by folks from Defy Film Festival, a cool costume and props gallery, a silent auction and tasty bites from the Clean Plate Club. Plus, you can check out a new, expanded edition of The Fire Cycle book.

7 p.m. at The Forge
