The 98th Academy Awards may still be a couple of months off, but the Nashville Symphony is going full glam on Jan. 21 with Leonard Slatkin’s Hollywood. Promising “a night of cinematic brilliance,” this program features some of motion pictures’ most moving and memorable melodies — including Erich Korngold’s The Sea Hawk Overture; Bernard Herrmann’s suite from Psycho; Alfred Newman’s theme from The Song of Bernadette; Miklós Rózsa’s Spellbound Concerto for Piano and Orchestra; Jerry Goldsmith’s “The New Enterprise” from Star Trek; John Williams’ The Cowboys Overture; Randy Newman’s suite from The Natural; Hans Zimmer’s The Dark Knight Orchestra Suite; and more. It’s a terrific program, and a perfect way to welcome back Slatkin — a six-time Grammy winner who served as Nashville Symphony’s music adviser from 2006 to 2009. He recently returned to the role to guide the organization, as the search continues for its next music director. Concertgoers are encouraged to dress for the red carpet — or perhaps just as a favorite film character. And there’s even a VIP option, which includes a meet-and-greet with Slatkin himself.
