If you’re a serious theater fan, you’ve no doubt seen Rodgers and Hammerstein’s iconic musical The Sound of Music. But this weekend, you can experience this timeless classic in a whole new way, as Backlight Productions teams up with Nashville Opera for a fun, inclusive sing-along production. More than 50 artists (across two casts) with intellectual and developmental disabilities will be performing alongside Nashville Opera artists and staff — including chief strategy and operations officer Keri Alkema (who’s taking on the role of Mother Abbess), special projects and executive adviser Carol Penterman, education and engagement associate Sarah Antell, plus longtime chorus members Frank Convit, Claire Paschal and Emily Apuzzo Hopkins. Through this unique partnership, Nashville Opera has been able to provide valuable artistic and educational support, while helping introduce Backlight artists to the world of opera. But don’t worry — you don’t have to be a professional singer to get in on the fun. This special sing-along show was made for everyone to enjoy.
May 30-31 at Christ Presbyterian Academy’s Soli Deo Center
