Nashville native Georganna Greene is a painters’ painter, and her new solo show at Julia Martin Gallery makes a statement about attention in a time of distraction. Circa Diem (Latin for “about a day”) gathers recent paintings that reflect the rhythms and textures of the artist’s daily life: marriage, friendship, gardening, the company of animals and managing chronic pain. Greene compresses everyday observations into layered fields of color guided by what she calls a linguistic approach to painting, utilizing poetry, prayer and meditation as her navigational tools. Greene is a recent artist-in-residence at Arcade Arts downtown, and her latest body of work seeks out the mystical inside the minutiae, framing attention itself as an act of generosity. Greene will be taking part in an artist talk on Aug. 27 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
