Mouminatou-Thiaw-Bury-Me-Deep-

For her solo exhibition at The Forge, Mouminatou Thiaw is drawing heavily on two subjects that feel particularly pertinent: the female form and plant life. The artist — who is currently based in Nashville but was born in Dakar, Senegal — is clearly tapped into the same generative-in-the-face-of-struggle energy as great Nashville artists like Karen Seapker, Yanira Vissepo and even María Magdalena Campos-Pons. That’s excellent company. Bury Me Deep features mostly acrylic-on-canvas paintings, but also includes a handful of clay sculptures and block prints. From the exhibition statement: “Through an impressionistic series of works, Thiaw expresses a somatic ecosystem of the earth, body and spirit, employing bold, contrasting colors and organic forms to explore emotional coexistence, healing, and interconnection.”

Through April 4 at The Forge
