TwinPeaks

Season 2 of Twin Peaks is often maligned. True, it’s marred by the breakup of David Lynch and Mark Frost’s creative partnership, and goes on some strange, uncompelling detours in the middle, after Lynch left the show. (Ahem, James Hurley’s subplot with femme fatale Evelyn Marsh.) But Season 2 is still where some of the show’s most iconic characters and moments hit. I have a soft spot for nun-turned-nihilist Annie Blackburn, and the orchid-loving recluse Harold Smith’s final scene will haunt you, while Major Briggs’ tearjerker dream monologue to his son Bobby will make you want to call your dad as soon as possible. It is happening again soon at the Belcourt, as the local theater brings back the Twin Peaks showcase series to present Season 2 on Wednesday nights in May and June. From themed drinks to a cameo from local comedian Cortney Warner as David Lynch’s ghost, the theater pulled out all the stops for Season 1, so round two is sure to be a treat. Check belcourt.org for showtimes.

Note: Since submitting this Pick, the writer has been invited to introduce the screening of episodes 2-3 on May 13 at the Belcourt.

Wednesdays through June 10 at the Belcourt

2102 Belcourt Ave.
