Kalup Linzy

If you’ve ever questioned how context can inform your reaction to an artwork, come out for acclaimed video artist Kalup Linzy’s opening at Haley Gallery, which is part of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. This isn’t the subversive artist’s first time exhibiting in Nashville — an installment of his long-running series Conversations Wit de Churen was screened in one of the horse stalls at Cheekwood Estate & Gardens back in 2010 and was a cornerstone of Soaps, Flukes & Follies. (The video is also in the collection of the Whitney and the Met — Linzy’s no slouch!) But even so, this show is an achievement of Haley’s dedication to showcasing relevant contemporary art, and includes not only Linzy’s film work but also paintings, collage, photographs and even sculpture. From the press release: “This exhibit marks the worldwide gallery premiere of Linzy’s sculptural work — four small sculptures, and never-before-shown Polaroids spanning the artist’s career.”

Opening reception 5-8 p.m. March 19; through May 31 at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum's Haley Gallery

222 Rep. John Lewis Way S.
