When I’m deep in the throes of the saga that is dating in 2026, my friend Katie will turn to me and say, in the wise words of Joyce Manor, “It’s such a stubborn reminder one perfect night’s not enough.” The line — which comes from the 2011 track “Constant Headache” off the California-based pop-punk band’s self-titled debut album — so simply and bluntly puts into words what I’m often thinking during this modern era of love and loss. Now, 15 years, several albums and numerous performances since Joyce Manor first uttered this line, the band is headed to Nashville’s Fogg Street Lawn Club on Saturday in support of their newest record I Used to Go to This Bar. The nostalgic record ever so slightly incorporates alt-country influences into the group’s well-established emo-rock discography, providing a fresh sound for one of the bands that helped cement the pop-punk renaissance of the early 2010s. Also performing at Fogg Street this weekend are FFO Chillin, Philadelphia-based emo rocksters Sweet Pill and Glitterer (a Title Fight spinoff). One can hope that with all these sets lined up, perhaps — just this once — one perfect night will be enough.
