I’ve been volunteering with the Cumberland River Compact since I moved to town. The nonprofit then had the same goals as today: to help keep the Cumberland watershed clean through a variety of programs.

Hellbender on the River Poster 2026 - 1

But back then, the organization was smaller, without its own office space. Today the compact is located in the Neuhoff District, right on the banks of the Cumberland. And Neuhoff’s outdoor Platz is the location for its Hellbender on the River, a fundraising party named after North America’s largest salamander. The evening will feature food and drink — including a tasting of Ingram Distillery whiskey aged on a barge — live music, raffles and a virtual reality experience that will take you to some of the compact’s restoration projects throughout the Cumberland Basin. Tickets are available online, and proceeds support the work of the compact, including stream restoration and protecting the hellbender’s habitats.

6 p.m. at The Platz at Neuhoff

1320 Adams St.
