In 2017, longtime community activist and writer Sheri Sellmeyer was infuriated by a xenophobic newspaper column written by a casual acquaintance (whom she knew as a highly educated family man), published in a local weekly where she used to work. She decided to counter the anti-immigrant fear-mongering by highlighting the stories of Nashville immigrants, with the goal of having at least one profile for each of the 100-plus countries represented in Nashville. Nashville4All has now profiled more than 70 immigrant stories spanning five continents and is still going strong.
